Cure Live: @ Palalottomatica, Palasharp @, @ Wembley Arena

By Marco Kitsune • Apr 15th, 2008 • Category: Reports

In 2005, the sensational news out of Perry Bamonte and Roger O'Donnell, in for the third time Porl Thompson. No more keyboards, all songs are performed with only guitar.
Always characterized by a certain duration, on this tour, Robert Smith is' able to provide concerts for over three hours in the evening, and was probably only matched by Springsteen.
The tour was to present a new album, unfortunately not finished in time, bringing the band to carry ladders in which drew from each period.

29.02 @ Palalottomatica - Rome

The fourth Tour 2007/08, party late last year from Asia and Mexico, finally reaches Italy February 29 to Palalottomatica in Rome.
E 'with bells Plainsong that the band takes the stage, then continue with Prayers for the Rain intense and powerful. There 's a lot to Disintegration, are in fact performed Lullaby, Lovesong, Pictures of You an amazing (finally rivelocizzata) and the title track.
Compared to the last tour, there is a definite return of individual tracks alternating with more 'difficult'. It 's so that alternate sad and romantic songs like To Wish Things Could not singoloni to historians as The Walk, Just Like Heaven and Inbetween Days. But these cures like 'us' and the ladder is turned toward the harder guitar songs. In the final part of the main September arriving in succession Us or Them, Never Enough, Wrong Number, One Hundred Years and Disintegration. Following this half hour very intense, melancholic minimalism At Night before the first encore song, which comes to breath a bit 'at all. Also from Seventeen Seconds then follow M, Play for Today (the keyboard part is now traditionally shouted by the audience) and A Forest, always greeted with a standing ovation.
Then comes the pop anchors, which is open dances. Lovecats, Let's Go to Bed, Close to Me, Why Can not I Be You, parading one after the other with a Robert Smith who abandons his guitar and walks to the stage, letting go like you have not seen for years do . It 'definitely a good mood, talking and joking often with the public, which is not usual for him.
The final part of the concert is characterized by the Old School encore, with only pieces of the very first period when the Cure were only three imaginary boys. Boys Do not Cry, Jumping Someone Else's Train (live for the first time since 1980!) Continuing in Grinding Halt, 10:15 Saturday Night Killing An Arab and finally (Killing Another renamed for obvious reasons), violent and fast. It 's a final triumph.
The only drawback to this date Roman acoustics, really bad.

Palasharp @ 02:03 - Milan

In Milan at Palasharp presents a similar lineup, but the most welcome additions Kyoto Song, Catch, and The Baby Screams. The sound is excellent and this time the band particularly concentrated, perhaps less than a good mood in Rome but it is probably just tired.
Also on this occasion are another 3 hours and 15 live, and another is a total success.
The best time of the concert is likely to double from Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, with a hypnotic If Only Tonight We Could Sleep The Kiss and devastating.
The lineup stretched unfortunately requires the shortening of Old School but encore Killing An Arab is more violent than in Rome.

20:03 @ Wembley Arena - London

So here we are March 20 at Wembley Arena in London on the final European tour. Those who hoped for surprises or significant changes in relation to ladders Italian remains, however, disappointed. However the excellent acoustics of Wembley Arena and the perfect performance of the band did not disappoint. The old school encore has finally played in its entirety, than Rome are added Three Imaginary Boys, Fire in Cairo.
Three and a half hours of concert and despite the British public is proverbially chilly is yet another triumph.
Robert Smith's voice is disconcerting. Not only is still singing every night for more than three hours without a failure but even the vocal seems rejuvenated and power increased. The band clearly has never been so much fun to play live.
A particular merit presented the three new songs every night: The Only One (aka Please Project) is romantic and dreamy pop that reminds a lot of things Wish, A Boy I Never Knew is an acoustic ballad in which Robert Imagine the child ever had, and finally Freak Show, short track that creeps into pop-funk vein the Cure and we regularly run pop encore.
Personally I was a bit 'confused by these new songs, though noticeable, too derive from ideas already thoroughly exploited in the past by the band. Nice but not exceptional, then. The new album will apparently still 26 tracks, some tracks more interesting and courageous èpertanto lawful expected.

A final consideration on the public both the Italian and English. Unfortunately compared to past tours you notice an alarming increase of people attending property and seeds bored the songs more intense and difficult to return to life and enthusiasm only with the most classic and popular songs. Individuals, in other words. Sorry because the band does not deserve it.

  1. I attended at the time of Rome and, with regard to the last quick impact on audience behavior, well, what a disappointment. As I agree with you!
    However impeccable concert.
And noteworthy ballets by Robert ...;]

  2. I was also in Milan and the scene of the public more involved in shoot cameras and cell phones have not experienced a concert that was ... It seems pitiable is more important than return home to show off photos in their little virtual space rather than experience the thrill a concert. I heard a disturbing sbronzone just because I wanted to dance under the stage, but in defiance of sti Faccioni me are enjoyed!
Robert and The Cure in perfect shape, I still see them once again!
