Debut for russian “Sensor” out now!
By Promofabrik • Mar 24th, 2009 • Category: Articoli, Nuove UsciteSo far Intuition Records has released post-punk, gothic, new wave, indie-rock, dream-pop…. well now it’s time for a real great pop record!
Fantastic band we have found here in Russia! With their musical roots in British new wave of 80s and modern trends Sensor create great mix of pop-rock, new wave and synth-pop. If some comparison is necessary… hmmmm, if Frankie Goes To Holywood team up with U2 and try to do some synth-pop album it would be probably sounds like this! And even Billboard Russia have been convinced: Sensor appeared on the MIDEM – sampler of great Russian artists with the song “Off-white trash”.
Sensor started as a group in 2005, when Ilya Pavlov (vocal, keyboards), Andrey Smayev (drums, programming ) and Dmitriy Kozlov (guitar, synthesizers, back-vocal) decided to try themselves on the stage. The idea was to gather the best musical trends of the last 30 years in a single musical canvas. Several old-fashioned analogue synthesizers, drums, and a PC in small premises at the car park – such was unpretentious environment in which the group started to carry out their ambitious plans.
Why the name Sensor? The contemporary man lives in a variegated world – a global village. Due to globalization contradictory customs, trends and life styles have mixed together, and Sensor ‘s motto is to collect and reflect musical impressions of several generations. They play new music based on combination of entirely different musical styles: funk, electroclash, ambient, new wave, rock, house, electro, indie-rock, pop, jazz etc. That explains the name of the group. A sensor is known to be an instrument reacting to certain conditions or impressions. So, the quarter tries to render by musical means a variety of musical tastes of our time. In a word, the style can be called post-funk.
Soon after a bass-guitarist Alexey Bogatkov had joined the group, the quarter finally decided upon its musical concept. Pulsing rhythm-section, aloof vocal, volatile guitars, up-to date computer technologies, alongside with old analogue synthesizers of the past century, – all that became the immediate constituents of the debut album. Passionate admirers of the British music, the musicians did not hesitate to choose English lyrics as wording to their music. An accidental Internet acquaintance with an American poet Charlie Mason resulted in their further successful cooperation. Ten musical compositions recorded by “Sensor” within a year, was the outcome of prolonged studio sessions held through the Internet in distant parts of the globe.
After several critically acclaimed digital EPs Sensor’s first official album “Naked” will be out on Intuition February 21st, 2009!
