Black Wedding – 11000 Virgins (Streetday: October 06, 2008)

By Promofabrik • Set 24th, 2008 • Category: Nuove Uscite

11000 Virgins. What a title for an album! But ‘ different from what you might possibly think ☺, it’s all about a ’song collection’ from the 12th century – originally composed by the German abbess Hildegard von Bingen. These ‘ monophonic ‘ chorals were now transformed by Black Wedding into a more modern, ‘up-to-date’, but yet timeless gown. Far away from those beaten musical paths, Louis Zachert (all instruments and arrangements) and Belgian soprano singer Francisca Vanherle now open a new musical universe to the listener: By combining elements from most different musical styles and influences, Black Wedding creates musical canvas which contains both ruminant parts as well as highly danceable tracks. And those will definitely find their way to the dance floor!
In the forefront of the release of 11000 Virgins, ‘Sed Diabolus’ already became a kind of ’secret hit’ in an underground music club in the German Ruhrgebiet area. And a member of the MySpace web community said about ‘Rubor Sanguinis’: ‘Rubor Sanguinis is a bomb!’

However, 11000 Virgins is not an album which primarily aims towards the dance floor, but a kind of atmospherically dense ‘aural voyage’. Thus, it will also feel very comfortable in the living-room’s CD player. Best being savoured with candle light and a good glass of red wine…

Rem.: During the first 2 months, the CD will be available only as a strictly limited, numbered ‘CD On Demand’ which can be ordered via Black Wedding’s website (www.blackwedding.de). The digital download version will be available through various selected web shops.

Synthetic sound carpets and sequencer cascades are matched with oriental style percussive patterns; noise rhythms join with guitar arpeggios – and above all floats the medieval singing of Francisca Vanherle. Electronic music meets world music meets the middle ages, resulting in a unique and sometimes even peculiar style!
Louis Zachert is well travelled and culturally aware. A long work stay in Tunisia evoked his passion for the “od” – the forerunner of the occidental lute – and for Arabic percussion (darbukkah, riqq, tar); music from the Macedonian part of Greece enchanted him with its bizarre rhythmic and harmonic content; polyphonic structures from Balinese gamelan music became mixed with “classical” sequencer shaped electronic music.
All these influences went into the production of “11000 Virgins”, creating a unique sound, but also endowing it with a historical context giving the music a familiar, almost eternal quality.
